My old foreman said to always check the governor rope first on a stuck car
I was working on a 15 story office building in Dallas last month, and a car got stuck between floors. I spent an hour checking the motor and controller before I remembered his advice. Sure enough, the governor rope had jumped a sheave and was binding up. Fixed it in ten minutes. Anyone else have a simple tip that saved them a ton of time?

Man, that governor rope advice is solid. We had a car that kept tripping on slowdown at the top floor. Techs were ready to replace the entire selector. Turned out the rope was just a little slack and jumping a tooth on the governor gear. A quick tension adjustment and it ran perfect. Always check the simple mechanical link first.

Honestly that's so true about checking the mechanical stuff first. Read an old service bulletin once that said like half of selector issues traced back to governor or tape problems. Tbh it's easy to jump straight to the electronics when the machine acts up. Ngl I've seen guys waste a whole day swapping boards only to find a loose wire or a worn sheave. Always feels good to fix it with a simple adjustment instead of a big part swap.
