Finally got the nerve to speak up at the Edmonton Chat meet last month

I was at the downtown library event, just listening like always. Someone asked about good local forums and I just said 'This one, obviously.' A few people laughed and we ended up talking for an hour about other spots online. Now I try to say at least one thing at every meet. Has anyone else had a moment that pushed them to join in more?

Starting off with something small helped me, like just a quick "hey, I'm new here" before jumping into anything serious. Once you break that initial silence it gets way easier to relax and just be yourself.
