My deck ledger board pulled away from the house last night
Heard a loud crack around 9 PM. The 2x10 ledger attached to my brick veneer was hanging by two lag screws. I used the wrong anchors, the plastic ones that came with the kit. Had to prop it up with 4x4 posts from the garage. Anyone know the right masonry anchors for a fix like this?
Honestly I used to swear by those red plastic anchors for everything. Tried them on my own deck ledger about five years back. Woke up to the exact same cracking sound you described. My neighbor who's a contractor showed me how to use half inch sleeve anchors into the brick itself. Been totally solid ever since, even with my big family out there.
Oh man, that's scary... I used those plastic anchors once too. Switched to 3/8 inch wedge anchors, the zinc coated ones, about five inches long. Drilled into the brick, not the mortar, and it's been solid for three years now.
