HVAC unit died in my retail space on a Friday at 4pm

Had a 12-year old rooftop unit give out last Friday at our strip mall in Akron. Tenants were calling me nonstop about the heat and of course nobody could get out to look at it until Monday. Ended up dropping $4,200 on an emergency replacement after begging a local contractor to come in on a Saturday. Has anyone else had luck with extended warranties on commercial HVAC gear or is that just throwing money away?

Made a similar mistake years ago with a residential unit and swore I'd never skip the warranty again. Now I'm just praying my own brain doesn't die on a Friday at 4pm.

@jordan464 I get where you're coming from but I actually think warranties are overrated for a lot of things. Last year I bought a used laptop without any warranty and saved $200. It's been running fine for 14 months now. Sometimes the peace of mind isn't worth the extra cash, you know?
