Never thought I'd care about variant covers until last weekend
I always saw variant covers as a cash grab and ignored them. But then I went to a local con and saw how artists use them for unique art, and it clicked for me. What's the best variant cover you've ever picked up?

Remember scoffing at variants until I found a weird Silver Surfer one that made me stare at it for ten minutes straight. I get what @the_wesley means about a cover changing everything, it just grabs you.

You said you never thought you'd care, but are they actually that serious? Seems like just another way for comics to cost more. Cool art is cool, but it's still the same story inside.

Ignored variant covers for years because they seemed pointless. Then I found a Miracleman cover with art so beautiful I had to buy it. That cover made me slow down and really look at each page. It turned a comic I liked into something I loved. My best find is a Simple issue where the cover art tells its own sad story. Now I see variants as a way for artists to add something personal to the book.

I used to roll my eyes at variants, but then I found a Todd McFarlane Spider-Man cover that changed everything.

Totally get where you're coming from, that con experience is what changes your mind. The best one I found was a Venom cover that just looked so cool it made me re-read the issue. It's about the art making you pick up a book you love all over again.

Sure, the art can be interesting, but it's still the same comic inside. Paying extra for a different picture seems like a hobby tax. Cool if you're into it, but let's not pretend it's a big deal.
