Serious question, has anyone else tried a 'no-buy' month for specific items?

I realized my biggest personal waste was from impulse buying cheap plastic junk online. Last January, I banned myself from buying any new clothes, gadgets, or home decor for 30 days. It cut my trash output by about 40% and saved me nearly $300. What's one category you could stop buying for a month to see a similar impact?

Impulse buying cheap plastic junk was my problem too, did a no-buy on craft supplies and it really helped.

My friend had a whole closet full of yarn she never touched. She finally boxed it all up and donated it to a senior center last month. Said it felt like a weight off her shoulders, and she's actually finishing projects now.

A no-buy is a solid move for sure, but for me that just made things worse. I’d get all restrictive and then binge harder when the month was up. Like I’d buy a whole set of those mini clay pots and never even open the glue. Ended up with three half-used sketchbooks and a bag of beads I still haven't sorted. The discipline part is key, but I need to figure out the why behind the buying, not just cut myself off cold.
