My neighbor called me out on my recycling bin last month
He pointed out I was putting plastic bags and styrofoam in the blue bin, which just gums up the whole sorting system. I had no idea our local plant in Springfield can't process that stuff. So now I take those to the grocery store drop-off instead. How many other simple rules are we all getting wrong?

Our local guide says pizza boxes are a hard no if they're greasy, but the clean tops can be torn off and recycled. Same with those paper coffee cups, the waxy lining means they all go in the trash. I had to learn the hard way about not bagging recyclables inside the bin too, it just gets the whole load tossed. It's worth checking your town's website, the rules are super specific.

My buddy got a warning from the city because his pizza box had one tiny grease spot... they're really strict about it now. He didn't know the rules changed last year and just used the old guide. It's crazy how much the details matter.
