How kitchen jokes have gone from tools to texts

I've been cooking for twenty years, and in my time, pranks were always part of the crew bonding. We'd hide someone's favorite knife or put a fake ticket in the queue. Once, we convinced a trainee that the walk-in freezer needed 'defrosting' with a hairdryer. These days, it's all group chats and edited photos, which is funny but not the same, you know?

In college, my roommate once filled my shampoo bottle with mayonnaise. I didn't catch on until my hair felt like a greasy mess for days. Now he'd just send a dumb edited picture in a chat instead. The cleanup was half the joke.

My roommate tried something similar with Nair in my body wash bottle once lol. Had to throw out the whole shower curtain after it melted, @caseywest. That physical mess and the shock factor made it stick in my brain way more than any meme. Digital jokes just don't hit the same when there's no real cleanup.
