inWalked through a 1980s office building in Tacoma and the old alarm panel was still there
That cloth cable was actually pretty fragile once the insulation dried out. The braiding made it look tough, but it cracked if you bent it too much. We found a bunch of it brittle and shorting in an old warehouse last year. Modern wire is way more flexible and lasts longer, even if it doesn't look as heavy duty.

inUpdate: That time I cut a 12-foot seam backwards in a Denver condo and had to hide it under a couch.
Ever try to hide a paint drip behind a bookshelf?

inMy book club's rule change about spoilers made me rethink everything
See, the "knowing the ending shouldn't ruin it" part is where I disagree lol. For me, the surprise is a huge part of the fun, especially with mysteries. I'd hate to have that taken away.

inWorking at the Ness of Brodgar dig made me stop trusting old textbooks
That's a cool find, but I'm not sure one axe head means we throw out the whole book. Couldn't it have been an early one-off, or maybe the dating on that layer is a little fuzzy? Textbooks get things wrong, but they're usually wrong in a general way, not completely upside down.

inI just read that a single rotisserie chicken can make four separate meals for under $15 total
Stretch it even further by saving the bones after making broth. Grind them into bone meal for the garden or add them to dog food. That bird owes you nothing at the end.
