PSA: Don't pay $60 for a CLA on a disposable camera

I picked up a Kodak FunSaver at a thrift store for $2, thought I'd be clever and get it serviced for the lens flexibility. Paid a guy $60 to clean and adjust the shutter, but it's a fixed-focus plastic lens with a single shutter speed. Has anyone else wasted money trying to polish a turd like this?

Did you at least get a kick out of seeing how that little plastic lens looks after a proper cleaning? Man, that's a tough $60 lesson but hey, I've definitely done dumber stuff with my money.

And @christopher_coleman17 isn't wrong, that $60 lesson probably stung less than some other stuff I've blown cash on. But you're off base saying it's a "fixed-focus plastic lens" like that's the whole problem. That FunSaver actually has a 30mm f/10 lens that's just decent enough to trick people into thinking it's worth fixing. The real issue is the shutter speed is locked at 1/100th and the film advance mechanism is what usually craps out first. So even if you polish that little plastic element until it sparkles, you're still stuck with a camera that can't handle low light or adjust for anything. Better off just buying another thrift store FunSaver for $2 and calling it a day.
