I thought skipping rule refreshers was fine until our game fell apart

I used to jump right into playing without going over the rules, assuming we could figure it out. After a horrible night where we got stuck on a confusing game, I now always do a quick review first, and it saves so much time. What's your go-to method for teaching games without boring everyone?

Been there with Catan, total mess. @the_hugo, their surprise is right, skipping rules never works out.
