I was back behind my buddy's place in Denver helping him redo his privacy fence. We had the old panels leaning up against the garage while we dug new post holes, and a gust of wind just took one down right on top of me. Luckily it just bruised my shoulder, but it scared me bad enough that I changed how I brace temporary panels now. Anybody else ever had a close call with a loose structure on the ground?

I was super skeptical about those fabric paint pens for adding details to clothes, thought they'd crack or wash out. Picked up a beat-up Levi's jacket for $8 at a Goodwill in Omaha and spent a Saturday doodling on the back. After 4 washes now, the design is still holding up and I've gotten like 3 compliments from strangers. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand of fabric paint?

Changed my mind about wax strips after that breakout on my 3rd client

A senior esthetician at my salon in Austin told me to stop using pre-waxed strips and switch to hard wax. I ignored her for 6 months because the strips felt faster. For years I always did the butter and flour thing, coating every corner of the pan. Then last month I tried that Pam baking spray with flour for a lemon cake and it came out perfect, no stuck edges. I guess I was scared of changing it up because of past fails where cakes fell apart. Anyone else find certain methods just stick around too long before you try a simpler way?

Had a retired plumber stop by my shop and tell me I was gluing PVC pipe wrong for 10 years

This old guy named Frank came in last Tuesday to pick up a part for his sink and saw me putting together a shower drain. He watched for a minute then goes "you're gonna have problems with that joint in about 8 months." I was like what do you mean, I've been doing this forever. He showed me how I was putting the primer on too thick and not letting it flash off before the cement. I had always just slapped it all on fast and jammed it together. He said most diy guys get this wrong because they rush the chemical weld. Now I'm wondering how many of my past jobs might have leaks down the line. Anybody else get called out on some basic plumbing trick they thought they had down?

Guy comes in with his dad runs a farm up in Vermont. Watches me break down a hindquarter and just goes 'you're gonna lose a lot of the loin that way.' Told me the leg should be hanging with the aitch bone facing a certain way so the grain lines up for the chops. I checked my old training manual from trade school and sure enough I had it backwards the whole time. No wonder my racks came out inconsistent. Anybody else ever have a random customer just casually drop some knowledge that made you rethink your whole setup?

I went with the local guy because he showed me comps from my exact street, not just the zip code. House sold in 12 days for $5k over asking, which shocked me. Anyone else had better luck with smaller brokers over the big names?
