Had a guy at the Portland hammer-in ask me why I bother with a coal forge when propane is so much cleaner.

Oh man, that question is everywhere now. It's like asking a baker why they use a wood-fired oven when an electric one has perfect temperature control. You lose the soul of the craft, the feel of the heat and the smell of the coal. Some things just aren't about being the cleanest or easiest option.

But come on, it's just a tool. The soul is in the person using it, not the oven itself. A great baker makes great bread regardless of the heat source. Getting hung up on the gear feels like missing the point of the actual skill.
