The birth certificate delay that took 6 weeks to fix
I needed my son's amended birth certificate for his school enrollment last fall. The state office told me it would take 2 weeks. I called after 3 weeks and they said they never got the original paperwork from the hospital. Another 3 weeks of back and forth calls and emails before it showed up. Some birth mothers say you should order it right after the adoption is final, others say wait until you need it. Which timing worked for you all?

OH MAN I can TOTALLY relate to this! We had the exact same nightmare with my daughter's birth certificate last year. I ordered it right after the adoption was final because I was paranoid about losing the paperwork, and it STILL took 7 weeks to show up! The state office kept saying "it's in the mail" but then they'd find out they actually lost it twice. I called them every single week for like two months straight. The worst part was the school enrollment deadline was already past by the time it finally arrived. I honestly think you're better off ordering it IMMEDIATELY so you have it sitting around, because waiting just adds more stress.
