I used to think a quick comb through was enough before a taper fade. Watched a guy at the Philly barber battle last month spend 10 full minutes sectioning and combing first. His lines were perfect. Totally changed my prep.

That "10 full minutes" part is key. It's not just combing, it's mapping the whole head. You see the growth patterns, cowlicks, everything. Makes the actual cutting part way faster and cleaner.

My friend Jenna tried to skip the mapping step once, big mistake. She ended up with a weird dip on one side because she missed a cowlick near her ear, had to redo half her haircut. @angela191 nailed it, that 10 minute comb-through is the real haircut MVP.

Oh for sure, @angela191. I learned that the hard way when I rushed it once. I spent way longer fixing wonky sections because I missed a cowlick at the crown. Now I always do that slow comb-through first, section by section. It saves so much time later.
