Gave a client a skin fade with my new Wahl Detailer and it came out patchy

I was sure the smaller blade would give me more control on the blend line, but it actually left a weird, uneven strip right above his ear. I think the motor might be too strong for such fine work, or maybe I just need more practice with it. Has anyone else had trouble switching from a regular trimmer to a detailer for fades?

My first week with the Detailer was rough, I kept getting that same patchy line near the temple. It felt like the blade was almost too sharp and would skip if I didn't hold it at the perfect angle. I slowed way down and used way less pressure, which helped a ton.

Check if your skin is totally dry before you start, @nancybennett. I had that skipping too and realized a little sweat or oil from my hands on my temple was making the blade grab weird. Wiping the area with a dry cloth first fixed it for me.
