Pro tip: I started using a cheap voltage tester from Harbor Freight for quick panel checks.
Last month on a job in Spokane, I was troubleshooting a DSC PowerSeries Neo that kept throwing false alarms. I mean, I spent like an hour checking connections before I grabbed my $7 tester and found a steady 13.8 volts on a zone that should have been closed. It was a bad resistor in a door contact I never would have spotted otherwise. Anyone else have a go-to cheap tool that saves your butt on weird faults?

Seriously, that thing is a ghost hunter for sure. It finds the weird stuff when the fancy gear just shrugs.

Oh man, I feel that. Those little testers are lifesavers for tracking down weird voltage leaks. I've been saved by mine more times than I can count on random faults. It's crazy how often the simple tool is the right one.
