Hit 500 installs today and realized something sad
I hit 500 alarm system installs this morning at a house on Maple Street. What hit me is that I've replaced almost 200 of those systems because people just let them rot after a few years. Anyone else feel like half this job is just fixing other people's half-done work?

Can't believe people actually let a whole alarm system just rot. That's wild to me. You'd think they'd at least call someone to look at it before it gets that bad.

Wait, is it really that bad to just let an old system sit there though? Some people don't want to mess with something that's still technically working, even if it's outdated... I've seen houses where the alarm panel is from like the 90s and it still beeps when you open a door, nobody's bothering to replace it if it's not broken. Plus, calling someone out to look at it costs money, and if the system is really old, more often than not they'll just tell you to buy a whole new setup anyway. It's not like people are being lazy on purpose, sometimes it's just easier to let the old stuff sit there until you actually need to deal with it... Different strokes for different folks.
