Finally bought a $150 label maker for my van's parts bins and it saved me a whole afternoon yesterday.

Gotta be honest, that seems like a crazy amount to spend for that job. I just use a cheap permanent marker on masking tape. Works just as well and costs maybe two bucks. The whole point is to find stuff fast, not have perfect looking labels. Spending that much on a label maker feels like a solution looking for a problem when a simpler one works fine.

My garage looked like a tornado hit it for years because my masking tape labels would fade or fall off. I finally borrowed a neighbor's label maker last month and labeled every bin in one afternoon. Now I can actually read what's in the containers from across the room, and nothing has peeled off yet. It felt silly to spend the money at first, but seeing everything stay organized has been totally worth it for me.

My buddy tried the marker and tape thing in his workshop. The ink ran when it got humid last summer, and half the labels just turned into blank sticky strips. He wasted a whole weekend just trying to figure out what was in his own storage boxes.
