I used to think job hopping every 18 months was the only way to get a raise.

For the first 5 years of my career, I'd switch companies like clockwork, chasing a 15% pay bump each time. Then I got a job at a tech firm in Denver where my boss actually talked about a 3-year growth plan for me. I stayed for 4 years, got two big promotions, and my total pay went up way more than all my jumps combined. The old way got me quick cash, but staying put built real skills and trust that paid off bigger. Has anyone else found that sticking around in one place actually worked out better for them in the long run?

Tarp camping converted me after one bad tent night

Yeah, I was totally in the tent camp before, no question. But last fall I got caught in this sideways rain storm on a ridge, and my buddy's tarp just shed the water while my tent fly was flapping like crazy. The wind went right under the tarp edge and kept things dry, where my tent just pooled water at the corners. Now I see how you can pitch a tarp tight to handle wind, and the air flow stops all that condensation. I'm kinda sold on it for anything but bug season.

Just counted and realized I've done 47 balayage services this month alone, which is wild because I was so nervous about the technique last year.

That "nervous about the technique last year" feeling is so real. I fumbled with foil placement for a solid six months before it clicked. You just have to grind through those first fifty or so awkward clients where everything takes twice as long. One day your hands just stop fighting you and start doing the thing automatically.
