Changed my tune on using a torque wrench for stem bolts

A crushed carbon steerer from just going by feel?

Just switched from a basic muslin to a 3D digital drape program for my final project

Start with a simple project you already know fits well in real life. Seeing the digital version match your physical sample builds that trust fast. It's the quickest way to get over the mental block.

Why does nobody talk about vintage quill stem binder bolts just snapping?

Tell me about it, my jar of weird old screws is basically a hardware graveyard.

My buddy swore by using a hairdryer for heat shrink tubing and I thought it was a bad idea

My buddy Mark bought a pro heat gun for his model trains. He used it twice before his girlfriend's cheap Conair took over. That thing lives on his workbench now, and the expensive gun is still in the box from three years ago. He says the hair dryer is just faster to grab and does the job fine. It's funny how the simple tool wins out most of the time.

Appreciation post: I was wrong about using a torque stick for lug nuts on my personal truck

Man, that's scary to think about. I had the same thing happen with a cheap click-type torque wrench from a parts store. It felt fine but was way off when I checked it against a digital one. What kind of torque wrench did your buddy have you use? I mean, I just do the final tighten with a good beam-style wrench now. It's old school and you gotta see the dial right, but I trust it more.
