Vent: I finally understood what 'metamorphic' meant after staring at my kitchen counter for three years
I mean, I was just wiping down the granite this morning and it hit me that the swirls weren't painted on, they were literally squished and baked into the stone under a mountain a billion years ago, which is kinda wild when you think about it, right?

Oh man, that's a great point. I always just thought of it as a fancy word for "rock pattern" before. But you're totally right, it's the actual history of the planet pressed into your counter. It makes something so normal feel way more special.

Right? @caseywest, does that make you see other everyday stuff differently now too?

My friend Sarah has a quartz countertop and she never really thought about it until her kid asked where rocks come from. She ended up going down this whole rabbit hole of YouTube videos about how crystals form and now she can't look at her kitchen the same way anymore. It's funny how one simple question can totally change how you see something you look at every day.
