A stranger at the camera shop gave me the best tip for expired film

I was buying some old Tri-X at a shop in Denver and mentioned I was nervous to shoot it. The clerk told me, 'Just overexpose by one stop for every decade past the date, you'll be fine.' I tried it on a roll from 2005, and the shots came out perfect. What's the best piece of simple advice you've gotten for tricky film?

That one time a simple 4-foot gate took me 3 hours to hang

Had a job in the old part of town where the ground was all messed up from old tree roots. The posts were solid, but the hinge side was a good inch higher than the latch side. I tried shimming, then planing the gate, but nothing lined up. Ended up having to pull the hinge post, dig the hole another 8 inches, and reset the whole thing in concrete. Anyone ever run into a slope that bad on what looked like a flat yard?

Had to choose between the old Northgate Mall or the newer Riverside Plaza for my first solo explore

I went with Northgate in my hometown because I heard the original 1972 fountain was still intact. Found it dry and full of leaves, but the tile work was amazing. The anchor stores were gutted, but a few old storefronts still had their signs. Anyone else check out a place just for one specific feature like that?
