After a rifle failure, I steer clear of cheap barrels.
The risk isn't worth the few bucks saved.

My first build had a budget barrel from a no-name brand. After about 200 rounds, the grouping went from decent to HORRIBLE, like 6-inch spreads at 100 yards. I found a hairline crack near the chamber. That was the last time I tried to save money on something so CRITICAL. Now I only buy from reputable makers, even if it hurts my wallet. The peace of mind is just worth it.

Is a crack that common, or just bad luck?

Had a buddy try a cheap barrel once. Found a crack just like that after maybe 300 rounds, totally ruined his weekend match. He swore off bargain bin parts for good after that.
