Ever read about how our brains get stuck in patterns when we try too hard? I saw a thing where a designer said forcing random choices, like your color pick, can break that. They talked about a guy who made his best album art by rolling dice for layout choices. It's like you have to trick your own mind out of its safe little box. Your eyes closed method is basically the same idea, just way more low-tech.
