Tbh I used to think a rock was just a rock until my kid's 3rd grade science fair project last month.

My buddy got a geology kit for his birthday and we all made fun of him. Then he spent an entire afternoon showing us how different rocks make different streaks on ceramic tiles. Turns out a plain looking gray rock can be full of wild colors. We all felt pretty dumb for the teasing.
