My smart scale just congratulated me on hitting 100,000 steps in a month for the first time.

I was just trying to weigh my cat, who stepped on it for a second before running off. The app's little celebration graphic popped up, and my partner asked if I'd joined a secret marathon. Has anyone else's fitness gadget given them credit for something they clearly didn't do?

That "secret marathon" line is perfect. I mean, did the scale just count the cat's weight shifting as steps? I've had my watch log a "swim" because I was washing dishes. What kind of celebration graphic did it even show?

Washing dishes logged as a swim is a new one. Makes you wonder if the data is even useful anymore. My scale once congratulated me for losing 20 pounds overnight because the batteries were dying. These things just make up their own reality.
