Why does nobody talk about the cheap HVLP gun gamble?
Dropped $150 on a no-name HVLP sprayer from an online ad, thinking I'd save cash. The thing sputtered like crazy on a maple table project and left me with a finish I had to strip and redo. Anyone have a budget gun that actually holds up, or is this just a 'buy once, cry once' situation?

Buy once, cry once" is the hard truth.

Totally agree with @jamieh76. That first sting of paying for quality stuff hurts, but it beats the slow drip of replacing cheap things every year. You end up saving money and sanity in the long run.

Is it really that simple though? I've had plenty of expensive stuff break just as fast as the cheap junk. Bought a high end blender once, motor burned out in 18 months. Meanwhile my $30 no name one has been going strong for years. Sometimes you're just paying for a fancy logo or a better marketing campaign, not actual quality. And with how fast tech changes these days, dropping big money on something that'll be outdated in two years feels like a waste.
