My client payment system was a mess until I switched to a simple spreadsheet

For my first year freelancing in Denver, I tracked everything in a notebook and missed two invoices. Last month I made a Google Sheet with columns for project, rate, due date, and paid status. It took maybe an hour to set up. Now I check it every Monday and haven't missed a payment since. Anyone else have a better way to keep track of who owes you money?

Switched to a Google Sheet about six months ago for the same reason. I color coded it too, green for paid, yellow for pending, red for overdue. That little visual trick made a huge difference for my dumb brain. I also set a repeating calendar reminder every Friday afternoon to check it and send any follow up emails. Now I actually sleep better on weekends knowing I'm on top of things. Has the color coding thing helped anyone else stay organized?

That color coding trick reminds me how I used to sort my laundry by color and still ended up with a pink sock.
