I thought skipping the final sand blend was fine for simple jobs.
I used to rush through sand mixing on easy molds. A bad casting showed me that even quick jobs need good prep. Do you mix your sand fully every time?

Make sure you mix it right every single time. I learned the hard way too, a simple mold failed from a streak of unmixed sand. Now I never skip the full blend, it's just not worth the risk.
