Am I the only one who thought my grandma's prune cake was just a weird joke?

I found her recipe card from 1978 in a box at my aunt's house in Akron and decided to bake it on a dare, but the spice blend with black pepper is actually incredible. Has anyone else tried a family recipe they were totally wrong about?

My grandpa's meatloaf taught me the same lesson.

That "weird joke" feeling is so real. I found my mom's old gelatin salad recipe with shredded carrots and thought it was a prank. Made it for a laugh at a potluck and it was the first thing gone, which honestly hurt my pride a little. I guess the old folks knew a thing or two about making vegetables disappear.

Old recipes are low-key genius. My great aunt's cabbage soup proved me wrong too.
