Developing film in my kitchen led to an awkward chat with my landlord
I was using the sink to mix chemicals when my landlord dropped by for a surprise visit. He saw the bottles and thought I was mixing something illegal, which was really embarrassing. What's the most unexpected reaction you've gotten while developing at home?

Oh, I had something like that happen once. My roommate thought I was doing something weird with all the bottles and the dark room setup. I just showed them the developed pictures to explain, and it turned into a cool chat about film. Now they even ask how my shots came out. It helps to have a few prints on hand to clear up any confusion fast.

Honestly, I've found that showing prints can sometimes make things worse. A neighbor saw my drying negatives and thought they were some kind of weird, creepy art project. Having the final picture didn't help, it just made him ask more questions about why I would "make pictures look so old and spooky." In my experience, some people just won't get it no matter what you show them, and that's okay. I just keep the door closed now.
