My stupid sewing machine needle broke mid-stitch on a silk blouse I was testing for a client in Austin

I was three hours into draping this sample for a summer line and the needle snapped right through the fabric, leaving a tiny hole I couldn't fix, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using microtex needles for slippery fabrics or just given up and hand-basted everything first?

Microtex needles are the only thing keeping me from throwing my machine out the window when I work with silk. Hand basting sounds like a nightmare for a whole sample, but I swear I've done it just to avoid replacing a needle mid-stitch again. That tiny hole is basically a memorial for your three hours of work, sorry about that.

Wait, @emerymoore has a point about microtex needles? I've had the same thing happen with charmeuse and it's brutal. That tiny hole feels like a personal attack. I used to think hand basting was for old ladies but now I do it on any fabric that slides around too much. Silk is just a jerk sometimes.
