Update: After seeing a lame horse, I'm done with quick trims

Rushing a trim can cause serious issues. Take your time, or don't do it at all.

One angle often overlooked is the horse's own balance during the trim. Rushing can cause you to miss how the horse shifts weight, which directly affects hoof angle. In my experience, that subtle weight shift is a big clue for proper trimming. Ignoring it for speed sets up the horse for future problems, not just immediate lameness. Taking time lets you adjust for the horse's natural stance, which is a key part of good hoof care.

Watch the horse's shoulders when you pick up a hoof. I had a gelding that would put more weight on his back legs if I went too fast. Slowing down showed me he was not balanced. I changed the trim to fit how he stands normally, and he walked better after. Now I always look for those small weight shifts before I cut.

Actually, it's more about technique than speed.
