The great hoof pick debate at the county fair

I was at the Clark County Fair last week and saw three different people trying to clean a hoof with the pick backwards, like a tiny garden rake. It matters because you can't get the packed dirt out of the frog that way, you're just scratching the surface. I finally walked over to one guy and said, "You're holding it upside down, the hook goes toward you." He looked at his hand like it had betrayed him. How did this even become a thing?

Watch the angle, you need to scrape toward the heel.

Forget the heel, try a shallower angle with less pressure. Sometimes the blade just needs to glide.
