Vent: my cheap speed square bent on a roofing job yesterday...
I was out on a roof in Phoenix around 3pm and my $6 speed square just folded when I leaned on it to mark a rafter cut. The aluminum went soft and now all my 90 degree lines are off by like 2 degrees. Anyone had a square just give out like that in the heat?

That "folded" thing isn't quite right. Aluminum doesn't really "fold" in heat, it just gets soft and bends under weight. Yours probably just gave out from the pressure, not the temp. Phoenix heat won't soften a speed square that much, 150 degrees ain't hot enough to do that.

Disagree with you here. Seen it happen myself with an old square left in a truck bed in Tucson. 120 degrees inside a closed cab for hours is way hotter than 150 outside, aluminum gets weird around 200. That square didn't just buckle from pressure, it literally warped in the middle from the heat soak. Guess it depends on the alloy, but some of those cheapies are soft enough to fold if theyre thin. Not saying you're wrong for your experience, just saying mine was different.
