Vent: A client's home LED mask gave her a weird rash

A regular came in last Tuesday with red, bumpy skin after using a cheap LED mask she bought online. She had it set on the blue light setting for 20 minutes every night to fight acne, but it clearly irritated her. I learned to always ask clients about their at-home devices during the consultation. Has anyone else seen reactions from those over-the-counter light tools?

My friend Sarah bought one of those masks from a sketchy website last year. She used the red light for maybe ten minutes and woke up with what looked like chemical burns around her eyes. It took two weeks for the swelling to go down completely. She never even considered that a light could do that much damage. I tell people to treat those things like any other strong skincare tool now.

Remember that blue light is actually pretty harsh. It's a shorter wavelength and can be more irritating than red light for some skin types. The cheap masks often have poor quality diodes that emit inconsistent light, which makes the problem worse. Always check the device specs and maybe start with shorter sessions.
