Heard a guy at a swap meet swear by using a pencil for trace repair

I figured it was total nonsense, but a desperate fix on a vintage radio with a lifted trace proved it works in a pinch. The graphite from a standard #2 pencil can bridge a very fine break if you don't have conductive paint handy. Has anyone else actually had success with this, or did I just get lucky that one time?

Tried it on a Game Boy cartridge trace years ago. It got the thing to boot up long enough to save my Pokemon, so I call that a win. Graphite is just messy carbon, right? Makes sense it can carry a tiny bit of current. Would I trust it in a car computer? Absolutely not. But for a quick test or to save some old piece of tech, why not give it a shot?

What kind of pencil did you use, just a regular one?

Works in a pinch, but you're basically drawing with dirt.
