That job in a 1970s office building where every single junction box was painted shut.

Ugh, a utility knife blade saved my sanity every time.

Gotta disagree with you @elliots23, those blades always feel like an accident waiting to happen. I've had better luck just using a good pair of scissors for most of that stuff. They're safer and get the job done just fine.

Ever try a painter's 5-in-1 tool? The pointed end is thin enough to get into the seam of a painted-shut cover. You work it around the edge to break the paint seal, then you can usually pop it open with the flat end. A flathead screwdriver works too, but it's more likely to chew up the metal or the wall paint. Just go slow and wiggle it in.
