Had to choose between code compliance and making the customer happy yesterday
Customer wanted me to hide a junction box behind their new kitchen cabinets in Nashville. I told them no way, so they grumbled and I had to surface mount it right in the middle of their backsplash. They called me three times today to complain, but my license isn't worth losing over a stupid box.

Nashville is strict about that stuff, and a hidden box is a fire hazard waiting to happen. I'd rather lose a customer than my license over something that simple.

My buddy runs a bar in Portland and he had a similar issue with people trying to store stuff near the back exit. He put up a big sign saying the fire marshal checks weekly and cameras catch everything. It actually stopped most people from even asking. He also trained his staff to just say "sorry, its a fire code thing" and that was it. Plus he put a small shelf by the door for coats and bags so people had a place to put stuff legally. Lost maybe 2 regulars but gained way more peace of mind.
