Switched to 54 inch boards for my last basement job. Never going back.

I've been mudding and taping for about 7 years now and always used 48 inch sheets. Got a call for a basement with 9 foot ceilings last month. Buddy loaned me a few 54s to try. Cut the number of butt joints in half and the finish came out way smoother. Anyone else make the switch and find it worth the extra weight hauling?

Nah, 48s are lighter and easier to handle solo in tight spots.

Right, but you're trading off stability and grip the second you hit anything technical or slightly loose. I've had my 60s on a steep descent where the 48 guys were sliding all over the place. Plus, the extra axle clearance on the 60s is a lifesaver if you're not on perfectly groomed trails all day. That added weight feels like nothing when you're not getting bounced off a rock.
