Overheard a guy on site say he uses a 12 inch knife for all his taping

I always thought thats way too big but he said it cut his time on flats in half. Tried it on my last job in a basement and honestly my finish was smoother too. Has anyone else tried going bigger than normal?

Have you actually measured the mud you're losing off the sides of that big blade? I went from a 10 to a 12 for a week and my bucket emptied way faster because half the mud just falls off the edges before you even hit the wall. Plus you can't get into tight corners or around outlets without making a huge mess. I switched back to a 10 for flats and my finish is just as good without wasting so much material.

Did you try adding a little dish soap to your mud to help it stick better on those bigger blades?
