Chatting with a retired installer at the hardware store about taping corners

He was buying a single roll of mesh tape and said, 'Kid, you know why I never get callbacks? I treat every inside corner like it's a 90 degree joint, even when the wall's out. You can't just slap mud in there and hope.' He showed me his trick with a 6 inch knife and a tiny bit of extra pressure on the high side. I've been doing it his way on my current Reno job, and honestly, the lines are just straighter. Anyone have a different method for dealing with walls that aren't perfectly square?
