Hot take: I think everyone overstates the need for a full 8-hour shift on the pump seals.

We just finished a 12-day job on the Columbia River and I ran my main pump for 6 hours straight with no issues. The manual says to check the seals every 8 hours, but I think that's too often if you're not in super silty water. I saved about 45 minutes of downtime each day by just doing a quick visual check at lunch. Has anyone else found they can stretch the service intervals a bit without problems?

Man, I hear you. I've done the same thing on longer jobs when the water was clear. That manual is written for the worst case, like you said. If you're not chewing through mud and sand, a solid visual check halfway through the day has always been enough for me too. It's all about knowing your conditions. Those saved minutes really add up by the end of the week.

My buddy learned that lesson the hard way when his filter clogged up.
