The day I stopped using a level for hanging pictures

I spent 20 years lining up a level with pencil marks on the wall, then standing back to check. Last month I finally tried one of those laser level gadgets my son got me for Christmas. Has anyone else found that the laser makes it harder to see the actual nail spot, or is it just me?

Just how long did it take you to finally admit the laser wasn't helping instead of your son being right?
