Stripping wallpaper took me 6 hours when I thought it'd be a 1 hour job

I bought a house in Cleveland with floral wallpaper in the kitchen and figured a spray bottle and scraper would do the trick. Turns out the previous owner painted over it with glossy latex, so the water just beaded off and I had to score every inch. Has anyone else run into hidden layers of paint under wallpaper that turned a quick job into a whole weekend?

Is a weekend of scraping wallpaper really that big of a deal?

The kitchen wallpaper thing is annoying but come on, six hours is barely a weekend project. People act like stripping wallpaper is open heart surgery or something.

Get what you're saying @logan_white59, but six hours of nonstop scraping with blisters forming on your hands feels a lot longer when you're in it. Latex over wallpaper is a special kind of nightmare that turns a simple job into a battle with sticky glue and paint chunks. You can't really compare that to regular wallpaper removal that actually soaks up water and peels off clean.
