After six months of blaming every local ISP, I finally bought a $30 TP-Link travel router to create a separate 5GHz network just for my laptop, and my client meetings haven't dropped once in three weeks.

I always blamed the ISP too, but @bettyl37 is right, the laptop's own wifi is usually the real problem. This little router trick is a total game changer.

Wait, you were using your laptop's built-in wifi card this whole time? Those things are almost always the weak link, not the ISP signal. The travel router just gives you a better antenna and a cleaner connection to work with.

Ever think about just getting a USB wifi adapter? They're cheap and the antenna is way better than what's built into most laptops. Honestly made a huge difference for me in spots with weak signal.
