That Monday when a simple injector swap turned into a full fuel system nightmare

Got a call for a rough idle on a Duramax 2500, figured it was just one injector (you know, the usual). Pulled the valve cover and found metal flakes in the fuel rail, which meant the high pressure pump was eating itself. Had to drop the tank to check the pickup screen, and sure enough, it was clogged with more debris. Ended up replacing the pump, all eight injectors, and flushing the lines, which took three full days instead of the four hours I quoted. Anyone else had a 'simple' job blow up because of upstream damage they couldn't see at first?

Yeah, that's the worst. After the first time that happened to me, I started pulling the fuel filter housing first on any suspected injector issue. If you see any sparkle in the bowl, you know right away the pump's gone and you can stop before you even pull the valve cover. Saves a ton of diagnostic time.

But is that always true, @emma_hayes80?
