The day I found out why our local mall died was a real eye opener

I always thought the Galleria in our town closed because of Amazon, but last week I talked to the old security guard who worked there for 15 years. He told me the real reason was the owner refused to fix the leaky roof for three years. Water got into the food court and two anchor stores left within six months. Then the rest of the shops followed. Has anyone else gotten the real story from someone who worked there?

Totally. That leaky roof story tracks with what happened at our mall too. Heard from a former janitor that management kept patching it with tape and buckets instead of fixing it right. One big storm and the whole hallway by JC Penney was flooded, carpets had to be ripped out. That was the start of the end for sure.

Man, that's brutal. My buddy worked at a mall in Ohio for a couple years, right? He told me the ceiling in the food court would drip this greasy, dark water from the HVAC system right onto the tables near the pretzel stand. They'd just put out a "Caution Wet Floor" sign and call it a day. One time a family got a whole splash of it on their pizza and the manager just comped them a soda, didn't even offer a refund. I guess that's how you run a place into the ground, one cheap fix at a time.
