Found the perfect SD card for my old ThinkPad in a drawer at work
I spent 3 hours trying to get a 2GB file onto my T42 using floppy disks and a parallel cable before I remembered the old 4GB SD card from my first digital camera was already in the media reader slot, has anyone else found a forgotten piece of tech that saved your whole afternoon?

Oh, I've definitely been there. That sinking feeling when you realize the solution was staring you right in the face the whole time. Did the SD card end up being one of those old slow ones, or was it actually fast enough to move your file in a reasonable amount of time?

Stella279: Actually, the weird part was that the SD card wasn't even the problem. I had two cards that were supposedly identical - same brand, same size, same class rating. But one would freeze up every time I tried to move anything over 2GB. Turned out the controller chip inside was a different version. Nobody talks about that, but even matching specs can have totally different internals. So yeah, I ended up swapping cards and it worked fine, but the whole thing taught me to actually test every single card before relying on it for anything important.
